Have you heard of Montessori style learning for toddlers?
It's new to me. At first I thought it was a trend! A new style of toys (wood toys) and décor. After I read up on it, I learned that Montessori is a method for educating young children in a way that develops natural interests rather than use formal teaching methods.
Respect for the child is the major principle underlying the entire Montessori method. Respect is shown for children by not interrupting their concentration, by giving them the freedom to make choices, do things for themselves, and to learn for themselves. The teacher encourages peaceful conflict resolution and must learn to observe without judgement. Montessori education is based on the principle that, simply by living, children are constantly learning from the world around them and through their senses children absorb information about the world. It encourages independence and views children as naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning through self-directed activity and hands-on learning.
For example, letting them get down from the table to wash their own hands apposed to scrubbing their face with a rag at the table. (Which also can be a factor in them disliking the whole eating routine in general as well - aka picky eaters!) Upon reading this, I knew immediately that it was for me!! I am super excited to learn and implement some of these methods! While I can not promise that this is a Montessori Childcare entirely, I will definitely implement as much of this as I can, as I do truly agree with the methods! Thoughts? Did you know it was a teaching method or am I alone in thinking it was a décor theme?
