The greatest thing about the curious minds of kiddos is that you can teach them every single day just by following their lead. Simply open the conversation up to thinking deeper after they find fun things. By saying things like "Who can remember the stems job?" when they bring me a flower. Or "Which part of this caterpillar's life cycle comes next?" when they pluck it from a leaf will keep their fun finds entertaining. It's also fun to see what they remember. Things like caterpillars and worms are a great opportunity to expand the conversation from "look what I found" to "what can we learn from this?"
Follow their lead and make curious minds more curious!
This particular caterpillar is a monarch caterpillar, and we found a nice crunchy milkweed leaf to put him on! Did you know that milkweed is the host plant for monarch butterflies? It is crucial to their survival. Without milkweed, the larva would not be able to develop into a butterfly because they feed exclusively on milkweed leaves! Even mom's can learn a thing or two when teaching their kiddos. Don't be afraid to Google a thing or two on the things that your kiddos bring your way! It can be quite interesting what you'll find!
