Emotional Eavesdropping

Currently watching a training video on the way that toddlers think. As much as I hate sitting still, I am truly OBSESSED with child development. I just feel like there is no better cornerstone for being your best self as a mother, than child development. 10/10, Highly recommended!!!!!

Have you ever heard of "emotional eavesdropping"?

Toddlers engage in “emotional eavesdropping” by listening and watching emotional reactions directed by one adult to another and then using this emotional information to shape their own behavior. During one of my training sessions, an experiment was done where the adult and child share toys. Later the second person ("the emoter") joins the room and does not interact with the child but does scold the other adult for playing with the toys. While I am watching this child, observing his environment, it was very interesting to see how he acknowledged the interaction between the two adults and changed how he played because of that interaction.

It was a great example of how kiddos self-regulate their emotions based on their environment! What a great age for observing and absorbing emotions!!!! Did you also know that experiences now will influence their belief systems later? Creating a safe environment for kids to feel completely confident in themselves and their skills can absolutely change the course of their belief systems for the future. Emotional development is POWERFUL & highly underrated. ❤️
